About HigherPose

Adam is a 200 - hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) and is certified through the Yoga Alliance. He studies asana (posture), philosophy and anatomy through an ongoing mentorship program with April Evans, E-RYT 500 with nearly 10 years of teaching experience as well as directing teacher training programs. 

 

Adam was initially drawn to Yoga in the fall of 2016, practicing on a regular basis at a local studio in Forest Hills, Queens. This past summer, Adam decided that he wanted to deepen his yoga practice and enrolled in a 200-hour teacher training through New York Yoga on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. 

Upon completion of his yoga certification, Adam began teaching immediately.  On January 1, 2020, Adam founded HigherPose and has since been working with groups and individuals in Manhattan, Queens and Long Island.

Approach to Yoga

Yoga classes and sessions are taught in a vinyasa (stringing poses together) style flow with a focus on asana (posture) and pranayama (regulating breathing technique). Classes are supportive to help students increase strength and flexibility, and to improve balance, coordination, focus, and concentration.  The goal is for students to leave a session feeling calm and refreshed for the remainder of their day. 

 

Classes are characterized by the following:

 

Gentle Yoga: An opportunity to breathe, stretch and move through yoga postures at a slow and deliberate pace. Several restorative postures as well as a complete guided savasana are offered.  

 

Basic Yoga: The focus is on proper alignment for each posture as we move through a series of waves of poses. 

 

All Levels Yoga: A class designed for those with some or advanced exposure to yoga. Focus is on proper alignment, along with one breath, one movement and peak challenging poses. 

 

Classes are customized to meet the needs of the student(s). All classes include breathing techniques (pranayama), traditional yoga warm ups (Surya Namaskar A, B or other variations), a series of sequenced yoga postures, balancing, backbending and inversions, followed by a cool-down and guided savasana (final resting posture).

 

Duration of class is typically 45, 60 or 75 minutes. Customization available upon request.

 

Classes can be offered at community-based organizations/institutions (e.g. camp, religious retreat), in small private groups, or as one-on-one sessions.

Virtual Yoga

 

I'm excited to offer virtual yoga classes. 

 

As we continue to get through this challenging period, Yoga is one outlet that many have turned to for stress management and exercise. It has become apparent that in-person yoga classes are not returning in the near future or even if they do, many may still feel uncomfortable returning to a class setting. 

 

Therefore, like many yoga instructors I am pivoting my business to virtual yoga classes for the immediate future.  This would include small groups and private one-on-one sessions. 

 

I will run my sessions virtually through the online ZOOM platform.  In addition to giving the instruction during the session, in place of hands on adjustments and modifications, I plan to send a personalized email to each attendee on their poses that require adjustment (along with a short video of myself for you to model after). 

 

For private one-on-one sessions: with the client’s permission I will record the ZOOM session and share with you the video along with a personalized email providing feedback.
